How does mining emeralds affect the environment?
Sub-surface mining actually has relatively little affect on the environment and wildlife near the mine. Since the mining is taking place beneath the surface, environmental impacts are fairly limited to:
- Pollution by mining equipment and miners
- Removal of vegetation around mine entrance
- Destruction of habitat because of rubble piles
- Change in the landscape after mine has been abandoned
