Are emerald mines subject to any laws or regulations?
Because emerald mines are generally less involved than other types of mining practices, they typically do not need to constantly worry about laws. However, emerald mines are still subject to the same regulations as other mines, especially since sub-surface mines can be dangerous for miners.
Colombia, which is the main supplier of emeralds today, has developed the Mines and Energy Ministry, the National Mining Agency, and the Colombian Geological Service in recent years to help keep mines like the emerald mines in check.
